Mindshare NXIP Gateways provide direct digital IP communication between Mindshare Console Systems and Kenwood NEXEDGE® Radio Systems. These gateways implement Kenwood’s NEXEDGE® IP Console Interface (NXIP) specifications for direct communication with NEXEDGE® systems. An IP interface provides secure and cohesive system integration allowing console users full access to radio system features.
Mindshare NXIP Gateways handle all NXIP specifics, including voice compression and decompression (vocoding), for the console system allowing console positions to function as part of the console system in a regular fashion without requiring special modifications to communicate with the NEXEDGE® Radio Systems.
Voice data is passed between Mindshare NXIP Gateways and Kenwood NEXEDGE® Radio Systems in its raw over the air form as AMBE+2™ vocoded compressed digital audio. Vocoders for Mindshare NXIP Gateways reside at the gateway server, with vocoding performed using DVSI’s USB-3003 hardware dongle. This dongle implementation supports up to 3 simultaneous AMBE+2™ streams and utilizes the latest version of DVSI’s voice compression algorithm to provide the very best audio quality possible. Unlike other vendors, which require a USB-3003, or outdated software library and licensing fee at every console, there is no such requirement with Mindshare. All consoles on the network can utilize Mindshare NXIP Gateways allowing transmit and receive operations with no additional software or licensing costs. Simply buy one server and every console can have a totally digital connection from microphone to earpiece. Simply add additional USB-3003 dongles to add more simultaneous streams support to Mindshare NXIP Gateways. Adding an additional console position is as simple as plugging it into the network and mapping the correct multicast addresses.

The Mindshare P25 dispatch console is a simple, efficient and cost effective way to migrate your existing analog system by converting your analog infrastructure to VoIP and providing full interface features for P25 digital systems. Working with industry leader Etherstack, Mindshare engineers have incorporated the full standards compliant P25 Console Sub-System Interface (CSSI), and Digital Fixed Station Interface (DFSI) within the Mindshare console. Powered by a Linux Operating System, Mindshare provides the ultimate in stability for a mission critical console system. The implementation of the CSSI/DFSI protocol stack is integrated with the Mindshare Console GUI, with protocol solutions derived from Etherstack’s field proven P25 software stack. The latest implementation of the AMBE vocoder has been incorporated into the software. Additional support is available for P25 security for end to end encryption. Key management with industry standard key loaders, as well as support for AES and DES encryption, along with a fully FIPS140-2 compliant solution are available as well.
The Mindshare console connects to P25 systems via CSSI through the Radio Network Controller (RNC). Hence, the Mindshare console effectively becomes a RFSS in and of itself. Each console position is assigned a unique Subscriber Unit Identifier (SUID) on the system making it possible to perform private calls between field units and individual console positions. Voice data is carried from end point to end point (console to field unit or field unit to console) in its raw over the air form. Thus allowing encryption and vocoding to take place at console position end points to achieve FIPS compliance.
The DFSI provides a one to one connection between a fixed station and conventional fixed station host (console). In order to share access to a fixed station the Mindshare console employs a Conventional Arbitrator (CAR) as outlined in TIA-102.BACE. The CAR allows each console position to be assigned a unique unit ID making it possible to perform private calls between field units and individual console positions just as the RNC allows with the CSSI. The CAR also provides the same vocoder and encryption practices too. Each console position may control a fixed station to transmit in analog FM mode or digital P25 mode while further specifying the NAC, destination IDs and channel selection.
